A Federation in eastern Arabian Peninsula on the Persian Gulf, comprising of
seven Emirates. Economy is based on oil production.
Formerly the TRUCIAL STATES under British protection. The Federation was formed
on December 2nd, 1971 by the Emirates of ABU DHABI, AJMAN, DUBAI, FUJEIRA,
SHARJAH and UMM AL QIWAIN, joined in February of 1972 by RAS AL KHAIMA.
Each of the Emirates continued to issue stamps until August of 1972, when first
'UAE' overprints on stamps of Abu Dhabi appeared. Direct UPU membership since
March 30th, 1973. Annual output about 35.
