A Sultanate on southeastern Arabian Peninsula. Economy is based on rich oil
resources.
Formerly MUSCAT, which in 1966 became the Sultanate of MUSCAT AND OMAN. The
ruling Sultan was overthrown in 1970 by his son, who changed the name to Oman.
First stamps were issued in 1971. Stamps were also issued by the exile
government (see OMAN, State). Several indirect UPU memberships, direct since
August 17th, 1971. Annual output about 20.
