Formerly a British Protectorate, located in southeastern Africa, on the west
shore of lake Nyassa. From 1891 also known as British Central Africa. The name
was changed in 1907 to Nyasaland. Between 1891 to 1895 stamps of the British
South Africa Company (RHODESIA) were in use with overprint of B.C.A. In 1953
joined the federation of RHODESIA AND NYASALAND and used its stamps until 1963
when the federation broke up. In 1964 became the independent state of MALAWI.
High faced value stamps of British Central Africa are of most valuable
philatelic rarities.
