Group of several islands in the Indian Ocean, established in 1967 as a Crown
Colony of GREAT BRITAIN (U.K.) including the uninhabited Chagos Islands (dependency
of MAURITIUS) and of three SEYCHELLES dependency islands. The last were
returned to Seychelles in 1976 thus the territory becoming uninhabited and
therefore ceasing to issue stamps. In 1990, however, restarted issuing with an
output of about 15 annually. (First stamps issued in 1968).
