Area - 32,720 sq.km; Capital - Philippopolis (Plovdiv)
Formerly a Province of TURKEY, territory in south Bulgaria. An uprising in 1885
against the Turks was followed by occupation and later on annexation of the
territory to Bulgaria and renaming it as South Bulgaria. Stamps were issued
between 1881-1885. In 1885 an issue for South Bulgaria appeared, replaced later
on by regular stamps of BULGARIA, of which it is today a part. |
