Information
Formerly under Turkish administration, the capital of Lesbos, one of the Aegean
Islands, between Greece and Turkey. During the first Balkan war in 1912, it was
occupied by Greece and later on became part of the territory known as
NEW GREECE. A Russian post office operated in 1910 (see LEVANT, Russian P.O.).
Today the island of Lesbos is an integral part of GREECE (HELLAS). Stamps issued in 1912.
