The largest island in the world, located between the North Atlantic Ocean and
the Polar Sea, geographically linked to North America. Economy based on exporting
of fish products and minerals. Greenland, formerly a Danish colony, is an
integral part of DENMARK since 1953, autonomous since 1979. Until 1938 mail was
free of charge, stamps issued only for parcel post (since 1905). In 1935 several
stamps were issued for the town of THULE. Direct UPU membership since July 1st,
1875 as part of Denmark. About 15 annually issued.
