A dry desert region, known for its diamond-rich areas.
In 1873 it was declared a British Crown colony until 1880, when together with
Griqualand East joined the CAPE OF GOOD HOPE Province. Stamp issuing between
1874-1878, all overprinted with a 'G' or 'G.W.' on stamps of Cape of Good Hope.
