Former British Colony, known also as Cape Province, located in the most southern
part of South Africa.
A Boer territory prior to becoming British colony. In 1880 it was conjoined by
GRIQUALAND WEST (together with Griqualand East) and in 1895 BRITISH BECHUANALAND
including the towns of MAFEKING and VRYBURG, was annexed to it, thus becoming the
largest of four provinces when united with NATAL, ORANGE FREE STATE and TRANSVAAL
to form the Union of SOUTH AFRICA (R.S.A.) in 1910.
First one to issue triangular stamps, valuable for collectors. Stamp issuing
between 1853-1904.
