A Republic, located in Southeast Asia, between Thailand and Vietnam. Economy
based on agriculture, coffee, lumber and tin are exported.
Formerly a Protectorate of FRANCE, conjoined into INDO-CHINA in 1893. In 1949, when
Indo-China was separated into the states of VIETNAM, CAMBODIA and Laos, the last
was established as a Kingdom within the French Union. In 1954 it was declared
fully independent and disconnected its French ties in 1956. In 1975, after years
of combat between communist supporters and the Kingdom supporters, the today's
Lao People's Democratic Republic was formed.
From 1949 and until first stamps were issued in 1951, stamps of Indo-China were
valid. Several indirect UPU memberships, direct from May 20th, 1952. Annual
output about 50.
