Information
A former French Protectorate, located in eastern Africa, on the Bab el Mandeb
Straits, the southern entrance to the Red Sea. The territory, including a port
town by the same name, was purchased by FRANCE in the 1850`s. It became a
protectorate in 1884, however the government seat, as well as various
governmental facilities including the Post Authority, moved to the port of
DJIBOUTI in 1888. Both, Obock and Djibouti, became part of FRENCH SOMALI COAST
(French Somaliland) in 1902. Stamp issuing between 1892-1894.
