An Independent State, island in the Windward islands group of the West Indies.
An agricultural country, tourism is a principal industry.
Formerly a British colony, autonomous associated state of GREAT BRITAIN (U.K.) from
1969, gained complete independence on October 27th, 1979 and a member of the
British Commonwealth. The ST.VINCENT GRENADINES are its dependencies,
four of which are also self stamp issuing since 1984 - the islands of BEQUIA, CANOUAN,
MUSTIQUE and UNION ISLAND. The Grenadines of St. Vincent ceased issued
stamps in 1994 and the name changed to St.Vincent and the Grenadines.
First stamps issued in 1861. Indirect UPU membership from September 1881
(as St.Vincent and Grenadines), direct since February 3rd, 1981 (under same joint name).
Annual output about 300. The high production mainly aimed at the philatelic market,
with no postal actual need.
