An Independent State, island in the Windward islands, West Indies, north of
Trinidad. Economy based on agriculture and tourism.
A former British crown colony until 1967, when it became an associated state of
GREAT BRITAIN (U.K.). Gained independence on February 7th, 1974, member of the British
Commonwealth.
Stamps of Grenada are also valid on GRENADA GRENADINES (a small group of
islands administrated by Grenada). First stamp issued in 1861. Indirect UPU
membership from February 1st, 1881, direct since January 30th, 1978.
Annual output about 200. The high production mainly aimed at the philatelic market,
with no postal actual need.
