A Colony of GREAT BRITAIN (U.K.), located at the southernmost point of the Iberian
Peninsula, 'Guardian' of the west entrance to the Mediterranean Sea. A free port,
tourism being one of the main incomes. Most important strategically location,
holding a British naval base and commercial port.
British Crown Colony since 1830. In 1967 Gibraltar's inhabitants voted in favor
of remaining under British rule. Since 1969, wide internal autonomy. First
stamps with the overprint 'GIBRALTAR' on stamps of Bermuda were issued in 1886.
Indirect UPU membership from January 1st, 1876 through Great Britain. Annual
output about 35.
